This build started with a text from a friend - "Can you use a Fireblade" I replied instantly with a "YES", it wasn't a hard decision....
I didn't know what model it was, its condition, where it was, or most importantly, what the deal was.
Climbing into the van to meet him, I was already trying to figure out a way of informing HQ (my wife) of another bike possibly ending up in the back of my van.
I needn't have worried.
Standing in front of a huge pile of rusty parts my mate says "make me an offer" and my OCD goes into overdrive. "An offer.....I'll help you load it into a skip, that's got tetanus written all over it". He's serious - he needs to hand his unit back to the landlord.
The bike is/was a 2010 CBR1000RR. This version has won many TT's and held the lap record. This 180bhp mess was just something I didn't need.
"Make me an offer - come on you love a project". I looked at the pile of bits again, trying to work out what could be saved. His plan was to turn the bike into a street fighter, but it never happened.
"I'm sorry but I don't need a project like this, there's no way of telling if anything works. The engine could be scrap". It certainly looked that way.
"Just take it" he said. "Its in the way and its too much trouble for me to get it sorted".
Those words echoed in my head on the way home whist driving a slightly heavier van.
Can it be saved? Is it worth the time, effort and money?
Five months later at Donington Park whilst heading into Redgate, I got my answer.
